Minneapolis Students Selected For Youth Exchange

Four Minneapolis teenagers will spend the 2017-18 school year abroad, sponsored by the Minneapolis South Rotary Club as North Star Rotary Youth Exchange Students.

The students, who applied to the club this fall, were interviewed in October by club members and advanced to the district-level interviews. The students received notification of their acceptance and tentative placements in December. Students anticipate a late-summer departure, pending the successful completion of an intensive orientation.

Selected students are:
Gitzie Simonson, a junior at Southwest High, selected for a year in South Korea.
Camryn Simmons, a junior at Southwest High, selected for a year in Colombia.
Julia Larson, a senior at Washburn High, selected for a year in Brazil.
Sophie Martin, a junior at Washburn High, selected for a year in Indonesia.

There are currently six Minneapolis students sponsored by Minneapolis South Rotary participating as Rotary Youth Exchange Students. Juliette Croce, Washburn High, is in Belgium; Sivan Sartin, Washburn High, is in Paraguay; Luc Langille and Delaney McCarthy, Southwest High, are in Italy; Paige Piper-Hauswirth, Academy of Holy Angels, is in Denmark; and Korrina Chantland, Southwest High, is in Japan.
